The name of Toyota Fortuner develops an image of a giant which carries rugged looks and is embellished with powerful performance and comfort features. Learning lessons from it, Japanese car maker has introduced the new Fortuner with two engine options of petrol and diesel variants.

Not only this, the company has also rolled out the earlier 3.0 litre D-4D diesel engine configuration and replaced it with new 2.8 litre GD diesel engine, outsourced from Innova Crysta. This engine generates the power of 174 bhp and torque of 450Nm and mated with 6-speed automatic transmission system with paddle shifters and also with an option of six speed manual transmission system.

Talking about the petrol variant it is enriched with 2.7 litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that is capable of churning the power of 164 bhp and torque of 245 Nm and mated with six speed automatic transmission system along with option of five speed manual transmission system. The petrol trims are offered with 4 WD driving system, whereas the same driving option is offered only the top end trim of diesel variant.

Fuel Efficiency: Going through the fuel efficiency figures delivered by the new Fortuner it can be said that the new version of this SUV will take its legacy to new heights. The AMT trim of diesel variant delivers an average of 12.90 kmpl, while the trim mated with manual transmission system delivers an averge of 14.24 kmpl. Similarly, the petrol version of AMT Fortuner delivers an average of 10.01 kmpl while the petrol Fortuner with manual transmission system delivers an average of 10.26 kmpl. All these fuel efficiency figures are ARAI certified.

Exterior: Although, being the cut throat competitor of Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner looks little bit smaller, but thanks to muscular body which succeeds in giving it an equivalent appearance alike its contenders. With length of 4795mm, width of 1855mm and height of 1835mm, the all new Toyota Fortuner looks like a massive vehicle. The ground clearance of 220mm further helps in making it undoubtedly the dominator of the road.

The front fascia receives enlarged air-dame which is helpful in cooling engine faster than earlier, moving ahead the HID headlamps are placed nicely followed by chrome and front grille giving it more aggressive look. The side profile receives minute changes introduced to wheel arches along with introduction of new multi-spoke alloy wheels. The steering wheel in new Fortuner has been developed to operate different functions directly by clicking few buttons mounted over it; with this the sportier pedals help in giving the interiors an amazing look. The faux wood garnish over the steering wheel and use of plush when mixed together enhance the elegance of interiors to huge extent. This combination of wooden garnish and plush has been further extended over the button of various accessories comprising of power windows, air-con vents etc.

The central console sports new touchscreen double-DIN head unit that supports connectivity with DVD player, USB and Bluetooth. The six way electronic adjustable seat helpful in adjusting the driving position.

Safety Features: While developing the new generation Toyota Fortuner, Japanese car maker Toyota has paid appropriate attention towards the integration of safety features. The list of safety features offered in new Fortuner include ventilated disc brakes for front tyres and ventilated drum brakes for rear tyres. Other safety features that are helpful in retaining the control over the SUV are ABS+EBD, Brake assist system, and electronic brake force distribution system. The front passengers have airbags for their safety.
