The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, also referred as GATE Exam, is a national level entrance examination for candidates who want to pursue Masters in Technology and Masters in Engineering at IITs, NITs and other GFTIs. This year, the GATE 2016 will be conducted by the IISc Bangalore. The GATE scores are also accepted by other engineering colleges. The candidates can choose among 23 papers to write the GATE Exam 2016.
Petroleum Engineering is a new edition to the lists of papers. There has been a revision in the syllabus for GATE Examination 2016. The use of calculator during the examination has also been allowed among the other changes. The candidates can visit the official website of GATE to get more detailed information regarding the GATE 2016.
- The candidates must have completed their graduation in the field of Engineering/Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computers or an equivalent.
- The candidates who are in their final year of graduation can also apply provided their year of passing out is 2016.
Application Process
- The first step is to register for which you must visit the official website of the GATE.
- Click on the link indicating ‘GATE 2016 Application form‘.
- Fill in the necessary details required.
- You will then be asked to upload a scanned copy of your photograph and signature.
- You will also be required to upload necessary documents and certificates.
- Once you fill in all the information go through it once before you click on ‘Submit’.
- You will now be successfully registered with GATE 2016 .
- Make sure you take a printout of your application form for further reference.
Application Fees
The application fees for different categories of the candidates is as follows –
- Women candidates – Rs. 750
- SC/ST/PWD – Rs. 750
- Other candidates – Rs. 1500
The application fees can be paid online using credit card/debit card/net banking.
GATE 2016 – Selection Procedure
- The candidates will have to clear the cut off marks which will vary according to the different papers.
- Once the candidates get their score cards they will have to apply individually to different institutes and universities accepting these scores. The cut off scores may vary across colleges and institutions.
- There will be no common counseling held for the IITs.
- The admissions will be done through the CCMT process for the NITs.

- Issuing of Admit cards – 17th December 2015.
